This programme will equip participants with the fundamental knowledge of screen acting. Learn the various skills and techniques of script reading, voice articulation and character building through the guidance of Media Practitioners.

1.
Fundamentals of Acting

An overview of acting, which includes characterisation, self-realisation, and strengthening of effective memory. Students will learn to break their mental concept of themselves and rebuild their self-awareness to strengthen their learning ability and confidence in acting.

Voice Techniques

Learn the various breathing techniques, correct posture, and pronunciation for voice acting.

Bringing a Character to Life

Learn to read and understand the script by breaking them and bringing the characters to life.

人物设计
学会阅读和理解剧本,通过分解剧本进行人物设计。

4.
Directing a Fight

  • Proper warm-up and stretches to reduce the risk of injury during a fighting scene.
  • Perform a realistic directed fight scene and the proper falling positions that will suit the camera angle.
  • Slapping, stabbing, strangling, defense, struggle, working in pairs for a fight scene demo.
  • Reacting and countering moves during a fight scene. Using swords and guns to simulate a real fighting scene.
  • Experience wire movement: techniques on how to fly, turn, spin, and land beautifully.

5.
Dance Basics

An introductory component for students with little to no experience in dance and movement. This takes the format of a basic Ballet and Broadway jazz/show dance training. Through a simple choreography to a musical theatre piece, students will be exposed to the foundation of jazz and ballet techniques commonly applied in dance and movement for stage and television shows.

针对初学者的入门课程,以基本的芭蕾和百老汇爵士/舞蹈演出的形式授课。通过对音乐剧作品的简单编排,学生将接触到在舞台和电视节目中经常用到的爵士舞的基础步伐和芭蕾舞技巧。

6.
Filming on Set

Being on set. This class will prepare participants for proper filming, giving them opportunities to try out the various camera angles, shot sizes and learning about space and light.

Image Design and Grooming

Make-up demonstration and basic make-up techniques. The module will cover topics such as:

  • Highlight assets & correcting imperfections
  • Introduction to body shapes
  • Dos and don’ts of styling for different body shapes
  • Styling for plus size bodies: Visual techniques to flatter the body form

Composite Assessment: Student will be given scripts to perform a scene on set. Assessment based on performance score sheet and rubrics.

Performance Assessment: Student must be able to perform the rehearsed choreography as a conclusion to the dance component. Assessment based on performance score sheet and rubrics.

Written Assessment: Determine understanding of the production process and to understand the filming set and performance assessment - demonstrate capability in using the cameras and working with directors and cast.

Performance Assessment: Students will have to pick suitable dress and apply make up for a model.

Certification 证书

Students will be awarded the Diploma in Acting (Chinese) from Singapore Media Academy upon successful completion of all required modules.

Trainers 授课讲师

Chris Lim Koong Hwee
Courseware developer and lead trainer for this Diploma, Chris, joined Mediacorp in 1990 and has worked his way up the ranks to a producer. He has directed numerous Chinese Drama productions. He received numerous praises from his peers as well as artists who have worked with him before.

Chris will teach the basics of TV acting to the participants and provide participants with an overview of TV and film production flow.

Liow Shi Suen
Shi Suen has worked in the media industry for over 30 years with experience spanning from a voice-recording director, variety programmes producer, emcee, dubbing artiste, etc. Her passion for acting is also shown through her involvement in stage acting, where she took on numerous roles.

As a linguistic training expert, Shi Suen has trained many professionals such as doctors, lawyers, and local and overseas actors and actresses.

Nick Shen Weijun
Winner of JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World 2014 for Cultural Achievement, Nick is a media personality who contributes immensely to the arts and culture scene in Singapore.

Nick first began his showbiz career after winning the Singapore Star Search competition and Star Awards Best Newcomer in 1999, held by Singapore’s leading broadcasting company.

In 2011, Nick turned his passion for Chinese opera into a purpose and founded Tok Tok Chiang, an events management company where Nick dedicates his efforts in repositioning Chinese opera and culture, changing perspectives, and renewing interest in the audience. With his determination to perfect this traditional art form, Nick mastered the unique Chinese art of Sichuan Mask Changing in 2012.

In 2017, Nick made further efforts to revive and promote this vanishing art form by taking over the helm as the troupe owner of Lao Sai Tao Yuan, a 155-year-old Teochew Opera Troupe. As the next-generation troupe owner, Nick is taking the initiative to promote this traditional art to the youths and the world to preserve its place in the heritage and culture of Singapore's ever-changing landscape.

Despite dedicating his time and efforts to promote the local arts and culture scene, Nick is still active in showbiz and regularly takes up new challenges in trying out different screen roles. His wealth of acting experience has led to him being appointed as a drama instructor at Mediacorp's Singapore Media Academy since 2014.

Zhang Yi (Cheryl)
Cheryl is a celebrity makeup artist with over 15 years of experience. She previously led the Mediacorp Studios’ Makeup Unit. From simple yet breathtaking makeup to head-turning red carpet looks, Cheryl oversaw a diverse makeup and hair requirement for artistes and news presenters appearing on all Mediacorp Chinese, English, and News channels. She was a key figure behind memorable large-scale ‘live’ shows such as Star Search and Star Awards, as well as a multitude of lifestyle programmes and drama serials. Her outstanding work won her recognition both within Mediacorp and the industry.

Kung Cheung Tak (Douglas)
Douglas is the Martial Art Director for almost all the drama productions in Mediacorp. He has many years of experience as a Stuntman and rose through the rank as Martial Art Director.

He will teach participants the basic techniques of stage combat, executing punches safely, and, most interestingly, allows the participants to experience “flying” using cables.

Lee Yixun (Bernice)
Bernice is an artist, choreographer, teacher, writer, performer, and dancer. She is the co-director of Derring-Do Dance/Rolypoly Family, with longtime collaborator Faye Lim. Bernice has danced, choreographed, and taught for local companies Maya Dance Theatre (2014-2017) and Frontier Danceland (2012-2014). A choreographer, an associate member at Dance Nucleus (2018-2020), and a part-time lecturer at Lasalle College of the Arts, she has worked as a dramaturgy assistant for Shahar Binyamini in his creation for Frontier Danceland (PARADISO, 2018). Bernice recently showed her work at M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival 2019 and The Esplanade da:ns festival 2020. Her work with theatre practitioner Chong Gua Khee, Tactility Studies: Hold to Reset, was part of the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) Festival House 2021.

Bernice holds a B.F.A. from The Ohio State University (2010), during which she studied on exchange at the Laban Centre (UK). She was supported by National Arts Council and the International Buckeye Scholarship. She is currently an MA candidate in Fine Arts at Lasalle College of the Arts.

Goh Wei Na
Weina started her dance journey with Ballet as a child. Later on, her love for hip-hop music led her to explore dance and culture, which subsequently helped her embark on her teaching and choreography journey.

As a seasoned performer, she has performed as a backup dancer in some Mediacorp shows, commercial company’s dinner and dance events, Esplanade da:ns festival. She was also a part-time parade performer at Universal Studios Singapore.

She has completed the International Student Visa Programme at New York Broadway Dance Centre to broaden her knowledge of street dance and her teaching philosophy of dance.

She enjoys sharing her love for dance with her students and hopes that they can learn something about themselves through this artistic expression.
