Fundamentals of Acting
An overview of acting, which includes characterisation, self-realisation, and strengthening of effective memory. Students will learn to break their mental concept of themselves and rebuild their self-awareness to strengthen their learning ability and confidence in acting.

Dance Basics
An introductory component for students with little to no experience in dance and movement. This takes the format of a basic Ballet and Broadway jazz/show dance training. Through a simple choreography to a musical theatre piece, students will be exposed to the foundation of jazz and ballet techniques commonly applied in dance and movement for stage and television shows.

Being on set. This class will prepare participants for proper filming, giving them opportunities to try out the various camera angles, shot sizes and learning about space and light.

Chris Lim Koong Hwee
Courseware developer and lead trainer for this Diploma, Chris, joined Mediacorp in 1990 and has worked his way up the ranks to a producer. He has directed numerous Chinese Drama productions. He received numerous praises from his peers as well as artists who have worked with him before.
Chris will teach the basics of TV acting to the participants and provide participants with an overview of TV and film production flow.
Liow Shi Suen
Shi Suen has worked in the media industry for over 30 years with experience spanning from a voice-recording director, variety programmes producer, emcee, dubbing artiste, etc. Her passion for acting is also shown through her involvement in stage acting, where she took on numerous roles.
As a linguistic training expert, Shi Suen has trained many professionals such as doctors, lawyers, and local and overseas actors and actresses.
Nick Shen Weijun
Winner of JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World 2014 for Cultural Achievement, Nick is a media personality who contributes immensely to the arts and culture scene in Singapore.
Nick first began his showbiz career after winning the Singapore Star Search competition and Star Awards Best Newcomer in 1999, held by Singapore’s leading broadcasting company.
In 2011, Nick turned his passion for Chinese opera into a purpose and founded Tok Tok Chiang, an events management company where Nick dedicates his efforts in repositioning Chinese opera and culture, changing perspectives, and renewing interest in the audience. With his determination to perfect this traditional art form, Nick mastered the unique Chinese art of Sichuan Mask Changing in 2012.
In 2017, Nick made further efforts to revive and promote this vanishing art form by taking over the helm as the troupe owner of Lao Sai Tao Yuan, a 155-year-old Teochew Opera Troupe. As the next-generation troupe owner, Nick is taking the initiative to promote this traditional art to the youths and the world to preserve its place in the heritage and culture of Singapore's ever-changing landscape.
Despite dedicating his time and efforts to promote the local arts and culture scene, Nick is still active in showbiz and regularly takes up new challenges in trying out different screen roles. His wealth of acting experience has led to him being appointed as a drama instructor at Mediacorp's Singapore Media Academy since 2014.
Zhang Yi (Cheryl)
Cheryl is a celebrity makeup artist with over 15 years of experience. She previously led the Mediacorp Studios’ Makeup Unit. From simple yet breathtaking makeup to head-turning red carpet looks, Cheryl oversaw a diverse makeup and hair requirement for artistes and news presenters appearing on all Mediacorp Chinese, English, and News channels. She was a key figure behind memorable large-scale ‘live’ shows such as Star Search and Star Awards, as well as a multitude of lifestyle programmes and drama serials. Her outstanding work won her recognition both within Mediacorp and the industry.
Kung Cheung Tak (Douglas)
Douglas is the Martial Art Director for almost all the drama productions in Mediacorp. He has many years of experience as a Stuntman and rose through the rank as Martial Art Director.
He will teach participants the basic techniques of stage combat, executing punches safely, and, most interestingly, allows the participants to experience “flying” using cables.
Lee Yixun (Bernice)
Bernice is an artist, choreographer, teacher, writer, performer, and dancer. She is the co-director of Derring-Do Dance/Rolypoly Family, with longtime collaborator Faye Lim. Bernice has danced, choreographed, and taught for local companies Maya Dance Theatre (2014-2017) and Frontier Danceland (2012-2014). A choreographer, an associate member at Dance Nucleus (2018-2020), and a part-time lecturer at Lasalle College of the Arts, she has worked as a dramaturgy assistant for Shahar Binyamini in his creation for Frontier Danceland (PARADISO, 2018). Bernice recently showed her work at M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival 2019 and The Esplanade da:ns festival 2020. Her work with theatre practitioner Chong Gua Khee, Tactility Studies: Hold to Reset, was part of the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) Festival House 2021.
Bernice holds a B.F.A. from The Ohio State University (2010), during which she studied on exchange at the Laban Centre (UK). She was supported by National Arts Council and the International Buckeye Scholarship. She is currently an MA candidate in Fine Arts at Lasalle College of the Arts.
Goh Wei Na
Weina started her dance journey with Ballet as a child. Later on, her love for hip-hop music led her to explore dance and culture, which subsequently helped her embark on her teaching and choreography journey.
As a seasoned performer, she has performed as a backup dancer in some Mediacorp shows, commercial company’s dinner and dance events, Esplanade da:ns festival. She was also a part-time parade performer at Universal Studios Singapore.
She has completed the International Student Visa Programme at New York Broadway Dance Centre to broaden her knowledge of street dance and her teaching philosophy of dance.
She enjoys sharing her love for dance with her students and hopes that they can learn something about themselves through this artistic expression.

In Singapore, Juan is candidly regarded as the independent producer who is ‘still’ around through a variety of his achievements in 20 years. He produced Singapore’s first digital film, ‘Return to Pontianak’ and first HD-feature ‘Dirty Laundry’. Juan also produced ‘Perth’, Singapore’s seminal homage to Scorsese’s Taxi Driver. His career began as freelance production crew and editing. Additionally, Juan was trained in traditional cel animation and worked briefly in Japanese animation. He also read scripts and assisted in distribution for a film finance company.
With interest in story and project development, Juan developed and successfully sold a screenplay to a Hollywood studio. He was also the first few Asians to workshop film projects in European labs. Juan was associated with 3 other Singapore independent films in early 2000s. He also raised project funds up to S$1M for independent film ventures.
Juan also worked as a public servant in media training (SSG), talent development & content quality assessment (MDA); and then U Creative, a labour movement platform for the creative industry. He was on the advisory board for schools and lectures part-time. He is now attached to Taipan Films developing and producing motion picture content.

Janet is the Executive Producer and Writer of DV Studio Pte Ltd.
Janet started life in broadcast as a researcher writer for variety and info-ed programmes. She then went to work in trade development, business consulting, advertising and media sales before returning to broadcast in 2009. Her varied work experience helped her to become a better storyteller.
With DV Studio, she has helped to conceptualize and produce more than 20 television projects for Mediacorp Suria channel. The last episode of Menantu International (a drama series about transnational marriage in 2016) was the highest rated episode on Suria in 12 years.
She was the concept creator and storyteller for a documentary, Terbit, which had won the Best Factual programme at the Pesta Perdana Awards.
She has conceptualized and written for corporations and government institutions’ videos ranging from sitcom-style for training videos; to anniversary videos and videos that tug the heartstrings. In March 2015, DV Studio was privileged to produce PA’s Tribute To LKY.
Janet is also an Adjunct Lecturer at NUS Business School.

Chee Keng is a director, writer and producer whose works cross theatre, events, as well as TV and films. He is fluent in both the Chinese and English language, and has worked in China, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore. His international experience has put him in a good position to produce transnational collaborations in China.
Chee Keng graduated from the National University of Singapore with a first class honours bachelor degree and subsequently, a Masters degree in Japanese Studies. He obtained his doctorate degree in Theatre Studies from the renowned Beijing Central Academy of Drama.
Chee Keng shares his experiences and observations through teaching. He has lectured at National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Victoria College of the Arts (Melbourne) and Shanghai Theatre Academy among others.

Alvin is the Director of QES Management Pte Ltd, which was incorporated in 9 December 2000.
Alvin’s main roles in the top management include being responsible for leadership and development of a team of 20 persons of WSH professional and administrative Environmental, Safety and Health programs, procedures, training, work practices and ensuring the effective implementation of risk controls by the staffs on client premises. He is a Ministry of Manpower Accredited Trainer since 1995 for Basic Industrial Safety and Health Course for Supervisor, Safety committee Member Course, Building Construction Safety Supervisor/Manager Course, Lifting Supervisor Safety Course, Formwork Safety Course for Supervisor, Safety Instruction Course (Manhole) for supervisors, Confined Space Safety Assessor, Rigger/Signalman Course and Metal scaffold/Suspended Scaffold (Gondola) Supervisor and worker practical lesson trainer. Beside of the above OSH experience, he was also certified by Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) as a trainer for Environmental Management courses.

Justin is a professional sound recordist with an extensive portfolio ranging from dramas to feature films, and from studio sound to TV commercials. He first joined Interfilm Production as an audio engineer in 1996 following his graduation from School of Audio Engineer in the same year. His outstanding performance opened up an opportunity to be trained as a studio cameraman. In 1998, he started his first drama under the guidance of a Hong Kong Director and had worked on numerous drama serials with Mediacorp. Since then he has worked with HBO, Discovery Channel, Fox Networks just to name a few.
His recent projects includes “Apprentice” and “A Yellow Bird”, both of which have entered Cannes 2017 international Film Festival with standing ovations.
He also owns a state of the art new audio recording eng mixer ‘Zaxcom nomad 12’. It is a 12 audio tracks recorder with time code generator and the revolutionary zaxnet interface. Justin's desire to impart his knowledge and skills to the younger generation had led him to be an ACTA certified trainer and was a part-time lecturer in LASALLE College of the Arts, Puttnam School of Film.

Dr Richard focuses his professional consultancy on leadership development and organization coaching. He has worked with groups of leadership staff from multi-national companies, International agencies, local government organisations and community institutions. His current focus is on applying mindfulness-based interventions in enhancing performance resilience in organisations. He has been actively applying mindfulness-based interventions in numerous government organisations and private sector companies in Singapore and Indonesia. Currently, Richard is the main Training Consultant engaged by the Civil Service College of Singapore to facilitate and train government officials on mindfulness-based resilience and performance. In the earlier part of Richard’s career, he was a diplomat analyst of Singapore with extensive travels round the world to manage foreign affairs matters. Richard has more than 18 years of experience working as organization consultant.
Richard also collaborates with prominent universities in Singapore like National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University in training and supervising graduate students and alumni professionals in the application of behaviour science in organisations and the community. Richard was an Adjunct Lecturer at Nanyang Technological University, Nanyang Business School on management and leadership.

Shawn is a drummer, sound designer, digital media specialist, educator, advocate for ubiquitous learning, and recognised Adult Education Professional with millions of views across the globe.
He is currently a practising musician and online educator, part-time lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts and Republic Polytechnic, tutor at National Institute of Education (NIE), adult educator with Institute of Adult Learning (IAL), WSQ trainer with Singapore Media Academy, and a freelance CET curriculum developer. He also gives consultation to professionals in the creative industries.

Piao Xu has more than 11 years of experience in television and film after graduating from the National University of Singapore. She has enjoyed considerable success working across the whole spectrum of television production from conceptualising of new ideas to content creation and distribution. She has worked with numerous directors, writers, producers, above-the-line and below-the-line production resource staff , as well clients in the media industry.
Piao Xu has been producing, co-developing new concepts, writing and executive producing television series and tele-movies in different genres. She is the Executive Producer (in charge of production) of FIGHTING SPIDERS, the English drama that won the Special Award for Best Mini Series at the Seoul Drama International Drama Awards 2009. She is also the producer of 80s Rewind, the situational comedy that won the Silver World Medal (situational comedy) in the New York Festivals International TV Programming and Promotion Awards 2009.

Saleem Hadi is a Writer, Director and Producer with 7 years of experience across a vast range of stage and TV productions; specialising in docu-dramas, MTVs and short films. He is the proud winner of the 2008 Cannes Film Festival Distinguished Community Documentary Award. He has also directed a number of television dramas; winning the Best Director Award in 2009 for his Mediacorp Vasantham drama, ’NATCHATHIRAM’. Besides his experiences as a film practitioner, Saleem has also been an adjunct lecturer for over 5 years with Chatsworth Medi@rt Academy and Temasek Polytechnic.

Catherine is a freelance Digital Media Trainer cum Video Consultant, as well as a Video Producer and Video Director. She has more than 20 years of industry experience in the areas of broadcast transmission, directing, producing, editing and training. Recently, she was appointed as a member of the Film Consultative Committee by Mr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications and Information.
Catherine is currently a part-time lecturer with Nanyang Academy of Fine Acts lecturing Diploma Screen Media students. For the past two years, she was engaged by Pathlight School as a video consultant, Video Producer and Trainer to train 14 teaching assistants, who have no prior knowledge of film-making, in video producing and editing skills to cater for their teaching and student employability needs.
Catherine brings more than 18 years of experience as a Video Producer, Video Director and Editor, having worked at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, where she has produced numerous corporate and educational videos, including more than 18 teaching videos for the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine at NTU. She has also been invited by NTU to provide Digital Media training workshops to the academics and public for the development of effective learning and teaching practices for quality education.
Some of Catherine’s public projects include working with the School of Film & Media Studies at Ngee Ann Polytechnic as a Production Manager to produce a National Day Rally video, ‘Tau Gay Never Enough’; working as an Editor for the Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2006, for the editing of ‘Samoa Island’; as well as working on a tribute video for NP Distinguished Friend Award, Professor Leo Tan.
Catherine’s strength in teaching lies in her ability to transfer her knowledge, skills and attitudes to students to meet the media industry requirements.

Chang Un is a freelance writer who writes regularly for television, feature films, documentaries, commercials and online webisodes.
Chang Un was employed as a Scriptwriter at Mediacorp Singapore for eleven years from 1989 to 2000. He was one of the chief creative forces behind the successful sitcom, Under One Roof.
Recently, Chang Un developed and wrote a regional webisode series for Yahoo! Singapore starring the popular comedian, Kumar.
On the teaching front, Chang Un conducts a screenwriting course at the Nanyang Technological University’s School of Communication and Information. It is a course he has been teaching since 2005. His previous teaching experience includes stints at Digipen Institute of Technology and Nanyang Polytechnic.

Joanne has over 15 years of experience as a writer and director.
She is the head writer for Mediacorp TV Productions - Kin, Tanglin, Mata Mata, and My Sassy Neighbour.
Joanne was the Show Director at Universal Studios Singapore from 2010 to 2016. She was involved in the casting, directing and proposing concepts and writing scripts for shows such as Donkey Live! and various specials including the award-winning Sesame Street Saves Christmas, An Uneggspected Wedding and Halloween Horror Nights. She directed all the Face Characters, Stilts, Voice-Actors and Puppeteers in that capacity.
Between 1999 and 2001, she was employed by SPH AsiaOne and SPH Mediaworks as the Content Producer and New Media Producer respectively, involving in building content and managing websites.
Joanne received her earliest training at Television Corporation of Singapore (now known as Mediacorp) as the Producer & Director, then Scriptwriter, from 1994 to 1999.

Jeffrey is a Founder and Chief Make-up & Hair Artist of Jeffrey Linus Lee (JLL) Make-up Team, an executive committee of Hair and Cosmetology Association of Singapore (HACOS). Jeffrey has more than 17 years of experience in the industry and had 3 entries in the Top 10 Finalist in 2011 L’Oreal Elnett, Style Cheryl Cole Hair Competition in UK.
The team was appointed for Vivienne Westwood Fashion Step Out, and he is constantly involves in overseas projects. He did a shoot with Christopher Doyle; the cinematographer of Wong Ka Wei’s Films, which help to push him beyond his limits of attaining much higher skills, the latest trends forecast and technology.
Jeffrey was involved in several grand events such as, Singapore Grandest Road Parade, Chingay, National Day Parades, Youth Olympics’ Games (YOG), Theatre Play for Various Production companies, LASALLE-SIA Fashion Show, Mediacorp Cancer Charity Show Live Telecast, and International & Mediacorp Artistes. He also did Make-up and Hairstyling for Singapore Independent feature films and had premier on international countries.

Jocelyn is a freelance educator and practitioner in dance and theatre. She holds a double Masters in Theatre Studies/Research, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Dance Teaching).
She trained in ballet under the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, achieving Advanced 1 level, and teaches ballet to children and adult beginners. She is also influenced by other movement and improvisatory frameworks, such as the Six Viewpoints devised by Mary Overlie. Her dance teaching philosophy encompasses an understanding of the body, safe practice, and the love for personal exploration and independent thought – all of which she hopes to inspire in her students.

David is a working director in the local media scene for over 20 years. Being a freelancer, he has garnered extensive experience in many broadcast genres, helping numerous production houses direct their TV programmes both locally and internationally. He represented Singapore in the 1st World Event Young Artists (WEYA), organised alongside the London 2012 Olympics, a global art and culture event held in Nottingham, United Kingdom. He was also the recipient of the "Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World" in 2012 Singapore Merit Awardee by JCI TOYP. In 2012, Ray was nominated as the finalist for Yahoo Singapore 9 and runner up for Entertainment Category. During the same year, his short film "Closer To Me" has been shortlisted for the prestigious Louis Vuitton’s second edition Journey Awards. Dr Colin is the Co-founder and Director of Funhouse Digital Pte Ltd, which produces corporate videos, TV commercials and concepts for advertising campaigns for financial institutions and statutory boards.

Dr Yeap’s background is in the Information Technology space and since the 80s till now, he has been using and inventing a wide variety of EduTech tools for the design, development and facilitation of a variety of CET and PET courses. His 3rd e-learning game developed in 1991 won the National Software Competition (Singapore) in the Games Category and since then he continues to develop a variety of e-learning related content. Dr Yeap is also one of the co-founder and CTO of an online platform supporting the SkillsFuture & Future Economy initiatives.

Nicole is a Mass Communications graduate who stumbled upon the magic of Digital Marketing while she was still in Nanyang Technological University (NTU) as a recipient of the Nanyang Scholarship.

Zulanan is the Executive Creative Director of DV Studio Pte Ltd, a production house that specialises in drama production for the Mediacorp Suria channel.
Zulanan started his career in Broadcasting when he joined the Television Corporation of Singapore (TCS) as a Floor Manager. After pursuing his Bachelor of Communications in the U.S.A, he returned to be a Producer for TCS. He later left the station to be a lecturer at the Film Sound and Video Department in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, where he taught for 5 years. Subjects taught included Multi-camera Studio TV Production; Outdoor Broadcasting, and Single-Camera Field Production.

Haryani started her career as an actress in 2006 after being crowned champion in a Comedy Competition in Najip Ali’s variety show’s Gemilang. Since then, she has been scouted by many production houses and, till today, is a familiar face on the local channel, having acted in more than 30 dramas/variety/telemovie including the recent Makcik Kaypop and Tiga Dara Metropolitan.
